New signage is up in a couple of vacant storefront locations on East State Street in Rockford, signaling new food options.

Signs Point to a Rotary Sushi Concept in Rockford

Two long-vacant storefronts next to GameStop on East State Street may soon be home to a new dining option in Rockford, according to recently installed signage.

One of the posters announces that "All You Can Eat Sushi Rotary" is coming soon, and right next door, "Vietnamese Pho and Dim Sum" will be opening soon. No further details were provided to indicate when these eateries might open.

Speculation Builds Around Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

Online chatter, specifically on the What's Happening in Rockford Facebook page, suggests some residents are hoping the new rotary sushi restaurant is tied to Kura Revolving Sushi Bar.

"Getting fat if it's a Kura," comments Brandon D. on Facebook, while another post said they had a "gut feeling" this location won't be a Kura, and another posted that they've not seen a Kura Revolving Sushi Bar that is "all you can eat."

Kura currently has locations in Illinois, including Schaumburg, Oak Brook, and Naperville, but there's no confirmation linking Kura to the site in Rockford. When you search for all you can eat rotary sushi, the SushiPlus Rotary Sushi Bar in Chicago and Aurora is the top result.

What Business Was Previously at This Location?

Before these storefronts sat empty for several months, there was a clothing store and a discount shoe store that had some success on East State Street. Catherines Plus Sizes and Payless Shoe Source previously occupied the storefront next to GameStop.

When Catherine's and Payless moved out, it appears there was a Beds Up store for a short time, and the previous location for The Pottery Lounge.

More New Attractions Planned on East State

On the other side of East State Street, there's construction activity in the former Burlington Coat Factory store location.

The building is apparently being redeveloped into a Take Off Indoor Adventure Park, according to signage up at the location.
