Drivers traveling through the southeast side of the city should be ready for continued delays along 11th Street as the City of Rockford pushes forward with an extensive reconstruction project.

Major Work Continues on 11th Street

Daily lane closures remain in place along the 11th Street corridor between Harrison Avenue and 22nd Avenue as crews perform grading work, install new sidewalks, complete landscaping improvements, and install upgraded lighting infrastructure.

In addition, the section of 11th Street between 21st Avenue and 15th Avenue remains fully closed while contractors remove existing pavement in prep for roadway reconstruction.

Storm sewer installation continues between Columbia Avenue and 18th Avenue, although the intersections at 18th Avenue and 11th Street and Broadway and 11th Street remain open to east-west traffic until underground utility work reaches those locations.

Water Main Project Brings Additional Closures

Motorists will also encounter weekday closures between Broadway and the railroad tracks north of 11th Avenue. That section of 11th Street will remain closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for several weeks as crews install a new water main.

Roadways reopen at the end of each workday, but city officials are encouraging drivers to seek alternate routes whenever possible. Additional daily closures north of Woodruff Avenue are also expected as contractors install new residential water services.

Despite the disruptions, access to residents, businesses, emergency responders, mail delivery, and trash collection services will be maintained throughout construction, according to the press release from the City of Rockford.
