MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis duplex that burned Friday, killing five people, was inspected by the city last summer and issued a new rental license just a week ago.

The inspection report shows a variety of violations that appear minor, although one called for repairing smoke detectors.

City spokesman Matt Laible

said all the violations were taken care of and the license was renewed.

The owner of the property, Paul Bertelson, told The Associated Press that the occupants of the upper unit had lived there six to eight months. He said five or six people lived in the lower unit.

The dead include three children.
