Rochester Facing Coldest Weather In Six Months

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Southeast Minnesota may be getting its first freeze of the season as a cold weather system is headed this way.

It could produce the coldest weather in the Rochester area in 6 months.

The National Weather Service is forecasting lows in the lower 30s Thursday night and upper 20s Friday. The Weather Service says the best chance for widespread “frost and freeze conditions” will be Saturday morning.

The NWS office in La Crosse posted this on Facebook Tuesday evening:

The last time Rochester had below-freezing weather was April 25th (26 degrees).

If a killing frost does occur, it will be among the latest on record for the Rochester area. The latest the city has gone before recording a low of 32 degrees or colder during the fall season was Oct. 29, 1973.

And for the first time this month, daytime high temps will also be much cooler. In fact for the first time this month, daily average temperatures are expected to be below normal through Sunday.

Look for highs of only 45 - 50 degrees Thursday through Sunday. The coolest day so far this month was Oct 15 when the daytime high was 58 degrees.
