Rochester family loses life savings

A Rochester family is out of its life savings after a thief or thieves made off with its safe yesterday. Police say the family discovered the theft last night. The break-in occurred sometime between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., when family members returned home from their business. Police Captain John Sherwin says the family had a significant amount of cash in the safe. Also missing was a gun and some jewelry. Sherwin says the front door of the house was forced open. The house is located in the 1200 block of 14th street northwest, near St. Pius Church.
