Rochester Stabbing Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Conditional bail was set at $250,000 today for the Rochester man accused of a stabbing at a southwest Rochester apartment building on Friday.
20-year-old Mazem Gisi was formally charged today with second-degree attempted murder and two counts of second-degree assault for allegedly stabbing another man in his upper left abdomen after the victim answered a knock at the door of his apartment. According to the criminal complaint, the victim "indicated that the stabbing broke one of his ribs and that he was informed by medical personnel that he would not have survived the stabbing if his rib would not have stopped the blade."
After undergoing emergency surgery, the stabbing victim identified Gisi as his attacker and described him as his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
She was in the apartment when the stabbing occurred and told Rochester Police she saw another man in a hooded sweatshirt take a swing at her boyfriend before running away. The woman told investigators that her ex-boyfriend had been "stalking" her, and although she could not see the attacker's face, she suspected it was Gisi.
The court document says Rochester police officers made contact with Gisi's parents and informed his father that they were looking for him. Gisi then came to the Rochester Law Enforcement Center on Sunday and was taken into custody. His next court appearance has been scheduled for June 8th.
