Is Illinois 1 of 7 States Considering Another Stimulus Check?

There are some U.S. states considering sending another stimulus check to their residents, and just this week a $1,300 direct payment was approved for eligible Minnesotans.

Which U.S. States Are Considering Another Direct Payment?

According to GoBankingRates, there could be another 2023 stimulus check sent out if approved but it won't be from the federal government. This time, some financial relief could come from the state level.

The states considering another stimulus check for residents are:

• California

  • $200 to $1050 will be sent to residents of California depending on their income and it's been nicknamed the 'Middle Class Tax Refunds.'

• Idaho

  • "Last year, the state issued two tax rebates for full-year residents who filed Idaho state income taxes for 2020 and 2021 by the end of 2022."

• Maine

  • Maine residents who lived in the state full time and filed a tax return for 2021 no later than Oct. 31, 2022 will get up to $900. It’s called the “Winter Energy Relief Payment.”

• New Jersey

  • "The ANCHOR Tax Relief Program will send rebates of $1,500 to New Jersey residents who owned homes in 2019, with a total income of $150,000 or less in 2023"

• New Mexico

  • "New Mexico has rebates planned for residents in 2023. As long as you file a 2021 New Mexico state tax return by May 31, 2023"

• Pennsylvania

  • $250 to $650 for qualifying homeowners, $500 or $650 for eligible renters, and up to $975 for certain senior citizens.

• South Carolina

  •  "Depends on your filing status for 2021 South Carolina income tax liability, minus credits, with the rebate amount capped at $800."

In Illinois, there's currently no basic income payment or other stimulus-type check being considered, but some of the tax rebates were extended through 2023, according to a Yahoo report.

The first payout is an income tax rebate worth $50 per single filer, or $100 for joint filers. To qualify, you must be an Illinois resident with an adjusted gross income in 2021 of less than $200,000, or $400,000 for joint filers.
